Aloha Jerry!
I wanted to check in and say hello. I only recently returned from my site survey in Iraq and except for C TRP, the remainder of the SQDN is currently training at PTA. I will head over with C TRP tomorrow morning. I did want to provide a few updates.
1. Spur Ride. A remarkable event! MAJ Jerry Turner (S3) and his crew of NCOs really resourced a top notch Spur Ride that I’m certain will be the talk of Troopers for years to come. CSM Stout and I were proud to earn our spurs in East Range with the Squadron. Please look at the Hawaii Army Weekly article available at http://www.25idl.army.mil/article.asp?artid=8722 to see what the Troopers thought of the Spur Ride. BG Bednarek was on hand for the final air assault back to Wheeler to personally congratulate each and every Trooper. The Spur Ride Dining-In will also go down in 4th Cavalry history as a true team-building event...
2. DIV Change of Command. MG Caslen assumed command of the 25th Infantry Division a few hours ago (why I’m joining the Squadron tomorrow – he did a smaller ceremony with only CDRs & colors). He commanded 1-14 IN here and is happy to return to the 25th ID. He most recently served as the 70th Commandant for the Corps of Cadets, USMA.
3. Squadron Formal. We moved the Squadron Formal from the 27th of JUN to the 24th of JUL to allow for some more fundraising opportunities to offset costs for the formal. The Squadron FRG will seek to take advantage of the 4th of JUL event here at Schofield. We’re hosting this formal at the Pacific Beach Hotel in Waikiki and it should be a great sendoff to NTC.
4. 3-4 ASSN Reunion. The XO directed folks to sort through our 2,000+ images from both the Spur Ride and Dining in to provide you the “Top 50 photos” or so for display at the Association Reunion. We’ll get these to you in ample time to incorporate as you see fit. You and our other veteran Troopers won’t be disappointed with the latest generation of Cavalrymen. I took the liberty of attaching one of my personal favorites…
5. On the same note, I have to talk with the CSM about this when I get to PTA tomorrow, but I might be able to work it out to get a Trooper (or a few) to your Association Reunion. I’m sure I’ve blown every suspense from your newsletter, but if I can arrange for a few to “crash” the party, I wanted to check with you to see if it would be an issue from a logistics perspective (maxed out ballroom or hotel). I spoke to Bronco 6 about this while in Iraq.
6. SEP Visit. I’m tracking your visit and that is a perfect window to show up. We’ll complete our leave period o/a 14 SEP. We’ll work the details of your trip as we get closer.
I’m off to PTA but will be on the net. Thanks again for visiting last month and we appreciate your service to the Association.
